It’s Okay to Want to Be Held

When we are tired, words are not always what we need. Wanting simply to relax beside someone and feel the warmth of their skin and the comfort of physical closeness is an entirely natural human emotion. It begins with accepting that small desire.

You want to relax beside someone.
You want someone to gently hold your hand.
You want to be embraced without having to explain anything.
You want to be seen as a woman and treated with care.
These feelings are completely natural.

The desire to be held can carry many emotions. You may want to feel safe, to be accepted, to feel protected, or to forget your loneliness. Through another person’s warmth, you may want to reassure yourself that you are here.

What degree of closeness feels comfortable to you that day?
That is all that matters.

And sometimes, that physical closeness may awaken a desire to become even more intimate. That, too, is natural. The mind and body are not completely separate.

Being looked at tenderly can make you aware of a desire you have kept hidden. Being held can make you want to be desired more intensely. On another day, simply feeling safe in someone’s arms may be enough.

Neither is more right than the other. You do not need to think of wanting to be held as a childish wish. Wanting to lean on someone does not mean you are not independent. There is no reason why a woman capable of living on her own should not rest against someone’s chest.

Some days you want to talk; on others, you long for warmth more than words.
At OPUS, we will never rush you.
